Welcome to Moda Fabrics!
TABLE RUNNER CLUB: BLOOMBERG
TABLE RUNNER CLUB: BLOOMBERG
Materials Needed:
You will need the following to complete this project:
- Four Fat Eighths for Flowers
- Fat Eighth for Flower Centers
- Fat Eighth for Flower Center Borders
- 7/8 yard Background & Binding*
- 3/4 yard Backing
- Bloomberg Table Runner Pattern # BNB2303
*In this sample, I am using alternate binding, instead of the same print as the background; you will need 3/8 yard for binding if doing this also.
Paper and PDF patterns as well as a few kits are available in our shop at Sew Lux Fabric or ask your local quilt shop to carry the paper pattern and kit one up for you!
The original version of this project was made with white flowers from Mix it Up and Crossweave in Graphite. For this remix, we're showing you how it looks in Raspberry Summer by Sherri & Chelsi, which is hitting quilt stores this month.
Instead of using a single color palette for the flowers, we're playing with the prints a little to make red and pink flowers. Since the background is white, I am also using an alternate print for the binding.
This block uses some small units to build the flower. A tip for piecing this block is to trim units to size as needed after sewing corner units or HSTs. This will help to keep your piecing accurate. I am also careful to "press" vs "iron" - by this I mean I will lift the iron to move it vs push the seam with my iron.
Since we are alternating prints in the flower, it is also important to pay attention to fabric placement so that everything will align properly once assembled.
You'll make a total of four flowers for this one project.
Once the blocks are made, the sashing creates the illusion of the flowers dancing along the table runner.
The alternating colors of the flowers makes this version really fun.
I quilted this one with some straight lines, following the seams in the block as a guide. Of course, there are many ways you could quilt this, including free motion quilting, if preferred.
Here is the original done in low volume prints & grahite Crossweave. I did free motion quilitng in this version.
I have included a couple of mock ups in other new collections arriving to shops this month: Itty Bitty Backgounds by Primitive Gatherings and Cottage Charm by My Sew Quilty Life. Which one is your favorite?
If your local shop is carrying one of these collections, ask them to kit one up for you or help you select prints from another collection that catches your eye!
Next month, we will be making the Starstruck Stripes pattern. See you back here on March 20th for our next installment of the Table Runner Club Series.
